K1 Fiancé(e) visa: How to prove my relationship?

Proving your relationship is legitimate is not an easy task. It represents the backbone of your K1 Fiancé(e) visa that will help you get married to your sweetheart. Attending your visa interview is a constituent part of your visa journey. The Consular Officer will want to see proof of your legitimate relationship. Since obtaining this visa will launch your path towards U.S. permanent residence, the Consular Officer wants to be sure that they’re handling a visa case based on a legitimate relationship proven thanks to a few examples of evidence. Continue reading to learn more about the ways in which you can prove that your relationship is valid.

Photo Evidence

The photos that depict your relationship are a good way to start. Make sure you attach images of your fiancé(e) and you celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, and other times together. There are some exceptions to one type of visual evidence. If you’re in a non-heterosexual relationship and you don’t enjoy the support of your families, the Consular Officer will take into account that photos made at family gatherings will most probably not be in the photo catalog that you’ll deliver.

Travel tickets

If you or your fiancé(e) have seen each other in the countries where you come from, that’s a plus. In the eyes of the Consular Officer, you have a serious relationship and have made efforts to learn more about each other’s background. Ideally, the non-U.S. fiancé(e) applicant has visited the U.S. fiancé(e) petitioner at least once in the past two years. However, if you’ve seen each other anywhere else in the past two years, that counts as a relevant piece of evidence. You could also attach your theatre, cinema, and other tickets that show that you’ve enjoyed a variety of entertainment as a way of spending time in your relationship.

Communication evidence

Attach screenshots of your exchanged messages and emails. In addition, if you have letters, provide some copies as well. In case you’ve communicated via phone calls, the records are justifiable evidence. Other examples include the exchange of information via social media channels.

Recommendation letter from a family member

This is not a usual practice, but sometimes a recommendation letter from a family member could make a difference to your K1 Fiancé(e) visa application. In the letter, one of your family members can vouch for the two of you. They can state that they’re familiar with your relationship. In other words, the letter will confirm that your relationship is legitimate.

Besides offering one or more evidence from the list, remember that the core requirement for your K1 Fiancé(e) visa approval is that the two of you have met at least once in the past two years. It doesn't matter if you weren’t involved romantically at the time you met each other. The more important thing is that your relationship is real and that you’re planning to get married in the United States. For more information and help, contact our team of visa specialists.
